namely ellipse_select(), free_select(), rect_select() and
round_rect_select() because they are fully replaced by the new
gimp_image_select_foo() functions. Will deprecate the rest as soon as
I have figured how to put the parameter overkill of the remaining
functions into context properties.

If a procedure call fails, pass a string describing the error as
the second return value. First step towars fixing bug #344818.

added a GError parameter. If it is set, pass the error message
to
the return values.
